Setting up my weblogs is complete
About two weeks ago, while working on one of my websites hosted by Site Build It!, I wanted to create a weblog for maintaining current information about telecommunications. While it is possible to create a weblog, of sorts, using Site Build It, it wasn't what I'd become accustomed to using Radio Userland or News Pro. I decided it was time to investigate the state of the art concerning RSS and syndication, and that led me to the newest version of Radio Userland and the replacement for News Pro, Coranto. Both are heavily invested in RSS and XML and it was time to do some updating and building of new infrastructure before I could make progress on my original goal.

RSS and You
Netscape had one of the first "portals" on the Web, a place where users could go to get most of their information needs fulfilled: search engines, news, email, and more. But Netscape soon wanted a portal that was more customizable by the user and contained content from any site that wanted to contribute. Hence My Netscape Network (MNN) was born.

An introduction to RSS news feeds
RDF Site Summary (RSS) is catching on as one of the most widely used XML formats on the Web. Find out how to create and use RSS files and learn what they can do for you. See why companies like Netscape, Userland, and Moreover use RSS to distribute and syndicate article summaries and headlines. This article includes sample code that demonstrates elements of an RSS file, plus a Perl example using the module XML::RSS.

Web Services, RSS and Sun Bloggers
Still, despite wide consensus, the technologies usually associated with Web services are not actually standards or recommendations of any open standards organization. To the surprise of many, Web services are not just about SOAP and things that start with WS-*, as some vendors would like you to believe. Some of the most widespread Web services today β€” for instance, those in use by the fast-growing Web-logging ('blogging') community β€” are based on other technologies like RSS and XML-RPC.
