What is JAXP ?

This example presents a small SAX2 reader that outputs the qualified names and the respective namespace URIs of all elements and attributes in an XML file. Additionally the tree structure of the document is displayed.

This is an interface to James Clark's expat library for parsing XML documents. Module Processor.ozf exports a class that implements a SAX-like processor which can be used e.g. as shown below. SAX events are invoked as methods. Each application should specialize these methods to do something useful.

The single biggest factor in deciding whether to code your programs with SAX or DOM is programmer preference. SAX and DOM are very different APIs, Where SAX models the parser, DOM models the XML document. Most programmers find the DOM approach more to their taste, at least initially.

This module has a very simple task - to be a base class for PerlSAX drivers and filters. It’s default behaviour is to pass the input directly to the output unchanged. It can be useful to use this module as a base class so you don’t have to, for example, implement the characters() callback.

XML::Parser has done remarkably well as a multipurpose XML parser and stream generator, but it really isn't the future of Perl and XML. The problem is that we don't want one standard parser for all ends and purposes; we want to be able to choose from multiple parsers, each serving a different purpose.

Attributes are not reported through separate callbacks. Instead an Attributes object containing all the attributes of an element is passed to the startElement() method for the start-tag or empty-element tag of the element that possesses the attributes.
