MusicXML Example
This is a MusicXML example originally prepared from the Dover reprint of the 1895 Breitkopf & Härtel edition of "Mut" from Franz Schubert's "Winterreise".

The piece was selected because it shows a lot of MusicXML's features, including how multi-voice, multi-staff parts are represented.

The score was entered into Finale and converted into MusicXML using Recordare's prototype converter program, with metadata manually edited to expand on what Finale provides. The converter then generated a MIDI file from the MusicXML file.

Various formats were generated to demonstrate MusicXML's ability to interchange musical scores between programs and formats.

The page links to versions in MusicXML, plain text, PDF, MIDI, Finale Viewer (a link is provided to download the browser plugin) and Musedata formats.

Taliban Singles Online

Technology Used: IE5, XMLHTTP, Data Islands, DHTML, ASP, CSS, XSLT, Behaviors.

This application demonstrates how to  Sort, Filter and Highlight rows in a databound HTML table.  The cool and interesting thing about this sample is that it uses behaviors to do the Sorting and Highlighting.  To enable this functionality, just add the reference to the .htc behavior file.

Taliban Singles Online (with version 3.0 parser)
Technology Used: IE5, XMLHTTP, Data Islands, DHTML, ASP, CSS, XSLT, Behaviors.

This demo is a variation on the "Taliban Singles Online" above with a very important enhancement added. If the user does not have the MSXML3.0 SP2 parser installed, it will prompt them with an option to install it. This is very important since the demo uses version 3.0 of the parser for the Sorting and filtering. If the user does not have version 3.0, bad things will happen. An important thing to note is that IE5.5 installs with verion 2.5 of the parser, which does not include the all-important xsl:sort element that is used for the Sorting/Filtering in this example.

It makes for a very easy way to distribute the parser to users that do not already have version 3.0 on their machines.

NOTE: Credit and Kudos for this example go to one of my brilliant colleagues, Cindy Gaudette, at Motorola. Thanks

Redneck Employee application

Technology Used: IE5, XMLHTTP, Data Islands, DHTML, ASP, CSS, XSLT, Behaviors.

This application is similar to the demo above, minus the filtering and the look is a bit different.  It also demonstrates how to  Sort and Filter rows in a databound HTML table.  The cool and interesting thing about this sample is that it uses behaviors to do the Sorting and Highlighting.  To enable this functionality, just add the reference to the .htc behavior file.

This is a very simple (only 1 XML element) that demonstrates a way to graphically represent data. Once again, Cascading Style Sheets are used. This demo can be found in "The XML Bible", an excellent book by Elliotte Rusty Harold (idg books).  I give this book a big thumbs up!

1) Demo of an ASP/XML/SQL page that can use a fancy style sheet that works in IE5 or a less sophisticated one that works in any browser.

2) Demo of an ASP/XML/VB/SQl page that uses a VB Component to generate the data and return it to the Active Server Page
