Help On Math ML
Open Wiki supports the MathML standard as defined by the W3C organization. Everything that is entered between <math>...</math> tags is transformed into a mathetical formula.

Gentle Introduction to MathML
MathML is about encoding the structure of mathematical expressions so that they can be displayed, manipulated and shared over the World Wide Web. A carefully encoded MathML expression can be evaluated in a computer algebra system, rendered in a Web browser, edited in your word processor, and printed on your laser printer. Mathematical software vendors are adding MathML support at a rapid pace, and MathML is fast becoming the lingua franca of scientific publication on the Web.

TeX/LaTeX to MathML Translator On-Line
Thank you for your interest in our TeX/LaTeX to MathML translator. While our translator is not the only one you'll find out there, it has several big advantages over the others. For one thing, since it is written in Java, it is easily portable. But don't be fooled - it is fast (it only takes about 2 seconds on an average computer to translate a 100 Kb TeX document).

Content MathML
A short introduction to writing Content MathML by hand. It covers tokens, prefix notation, and applying functions and operators. In addition it introduces writing derivatives, integrals, vectors, and matrices.

MathML becomes official W3C Recommendation
The W3C has announced the release of the version 2.0 specification of Mathematical Markup Language (MathML) as an official Recommendation, indicating that the "specification is stable, contributes to Web interoperability, and has been reviewed by the W3C Membership, who are in favor of supporting its adoption by academic, industry, and research communities."

Publicon 1.0: Structured Document-Authoring System Demo
Publicon 1.0 is a structured document authoring system based on the Mathematica notebook front end and enhanced with custom document processing features. Technologies developed by Wolfram Research as support features in Mathematica are exploited here with the primary emphasis on an easy-to-use interface for creating and editing technical content for publication. This demonstration will cover Publicon's palette- and menu-driven interface, conversion processes for XML/MathML/HTML and TeX, a reference management system, and general customization features. Presentation by Andre Kuzniarek, Document Technology Manager at Wolfram Research and lead Publicon developer.

MathML
MathML is an XML-based document language designed to solve the difficult problem of displaying mathematics properly in web browsers. The W3C has produced a very good specification for MathML, an indispensable first step. Although it appears that it will take a little more time [as of this writing, August 2001] before we can genuinely say that we have usable, readily available, reasonably easy-to-install browsers that do a good job of rendering MathML, some of the software under development is getting pretty close.

MathML and Accessibility
Recently, I joked that, whatever my efforts to make these pages Accessible, no Screen Reader in existence could handle MathML. I was just joking, right? The W3C designed MathML with accessibility in mind. And everyone, including the W3C recommends it as the format for putting math on the Web accessibly.

Presentation Markup
This chapter specifies the "presentation" elements of MathML, which can be used to describe the layout structure of mathematical notation. It is strongly recommended that one read Section 2.3 on MathML syntax and grammar before reading Chapter 3. Section 2.3 contains important information on MathML notations and conventions which are necessary for understanding some of the material in this chapter.

The World Wide Web Consortium Issues MathML as a W3C Recommendation
MathML is intended to facilitate the use and re-use of mathematical and scientific content on the Web, and for other applications such as computer algebra systems, print typesetters, and voice synthesizers. MathML can be used to encode both mathematical notation, for high-quality visual display, and mathematical content, for applications like scientific software, or voice synthesis, where it's important to be able to understand the meaning.

MathML Accessibility Project
Displaying mathematics on the web is a notoriously difficult problem; The existing solutions, notably the use of GIF images for the presentation of mathematical notation, prove problematic in general, and particularly so for viewers with disabilities. The recent W3C proposal for an XML mathematics language, MathML, promises to quickly become the Internet standard for mathematical documents.

Math Markup Language (Section 3.2)
Token elements can contain any sequence of 0 or more characters, or extended characters represented by entity references. In particular, tokens with empty content are allowed, and should typically render invisibly, with no width except for the normal extra spacing for that kind of token element.

W3C MathML Namespace Identifier
The string "http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" is the MathML namespace identifier string. The fact that the URI it represents actually is resolved to this page is of no direct importance for namespace resolution purposes. This page is provided so that there is some relevant information to read in case someone wishes to do so. The matter of namespaces is discussed in the W3C documents on the matter, and MathML is explained in the current W3C MathML Recommendation.

Enable MathML on other Platforms
The rendering of MathML in Mozilla is native. The MathML module is a built-in component of the Gecko layout engine and so it is not possible to use it in isolation outside of Mozilla. It is built upon APIs provided by Gecko, and incorporates elements needed for the particular aspects of MathML.

Conversion between MathML and OpenMath
This document begins with a table detailing the transformation required to convert between MathML and OpenMath, using the MathML CD Group. We then give various illustrations of the more complex conversions. The first column gives the MathML element and attribute combination, the second column gives the equivalent OpenMath construct. Additional notes and comments are provided where appropriate.
