International XBRL Taxonomy Improves Likelihood of Interoperability with Other Financial XML Standar
The release last month of an International Accounting Standards (IAC)-compliant version of the XBRL (for eXtensible Business Reporting Language) schema for business reporting appears to opened the door for increased interoperability with other schemas for managing market data and research. The new XBRL schema has been welcomed by working groups such as MDDL (Market Data Definition Language) and RIXML (Research Information eXtensible Markup Language), paving the way for a unified approach for managing three cornerstone information types using XML.

Credit Risk Assessment using XBRL
Credit risk assessment plays an important role in the day to day operation of a business. Credit risk assessment is performed when a Buyer asks a Seller to ship merchandise without prior payment. (It is also used in other areas of a business including marketing. For example, a business may undertake a marketing campaign in which prospects are pre-qualified for purchases up to some specified amount.)

Straight through reporting with XBRL in the United Kingdom
The UK Inland Revenue has closely examined the business case for electronic filing, and rather than taking a paper form-based process and moving it as-is to electronic form, they have looked at the broader context of what's good for filers, vendors, tax administrators, and others. Through the Inland Revenue XBRL Working Group, the Inland Revenue has made a substantial commitment to using XBRL (the Extensible Business Reporting Language) as a component of Corporate Tax filings.
