Supporting Set-at-a-time Extensions for XML through DOM
With the rapid growth of the web and e-commerce, W3C produced a new standard, XML, as a universal data representation format to facilitate information interchange and integration from heterogeneous systems. In order to process XML, documents need to be parsed and then users can access, manipulate, and retrieve the XML data easily. DOM is one of the major application programming interfaces, which provides the abstract, logical tree structure of an XML document.

Programming XML: using the DOM Current status DOM Level 2
The Document Object Model, Level 1 , became a W3C Recommendation on October 1, 1998. Since that time, it has been implemented in several different software products, both free and commercial. The Document Object Model, Level 2 , was at the time of writing very close to being a Proposed Recommendation.

Marshalling Populations to XML
For many applications, some sort of marshalling mechanism can be very useful. Perhaps it's desirable to save the current population to disk for later so that evolution can continue at another time, or perhaps it's necessary to send populations over a network as part of a distributed application.

minidom and the DOM standard
The xml.dom.minidom module is essentially a DOM 1.0-compatible DOM with some DOM 2 features (primarily namespace features).

PHP Manual / Function Reference / DOM XML functions
The DOM XML extension has been overhauled in PHP 4.3.0 to better comply with the DOM standard. The extension still contains many old functions, but they should no longer be used. In particular, functions that are not object-oriented should be avoided.

DOM Objects
The definition of the DOM API for Python is given as part of the xml.dom module documentation. This section lists the differences between the API and xml.dom.minidom.

Effective XML processing with DOM and XPath in Perl
Based on an analysis of several large XML projects, this article examines how to make effective and efficient use of DOM. Developer/author Tony Daruger provides a set of usage patterns and a library of functions to make DOM robust and easy to use.

Moving DOM nodes
This tip takes a look at a common exception that occurs when you attempt to move DOM nodes. Here you'll learn the causes of this exception and, most important, how to avoid it when doing DOM programming. The code listings demonstrate how to move nodes from one document to another, what the code that generates the dreaded Wrong document exception looks like, and how to write correct code that doesn't present this problem. This tip assumes that you already know the basics about how to work with the DOM."

Creating XML Documents with DOM
DOM is a read-write API. DOM documents are created not only by parsing text files, but also by creating new documents in memory out of nothing at all. These documents can then be serialized onto a stream or into a file.

DOM Example
This example program is a fairly realistic example of a simple program. In this particular case, we do not take much advantage of the flexibility of the DOM.

microdom: an XML DOM Designed For HTML
As the change from HTML to XML-based standards takes place, it is natural to start using XML tools and APIs for processing and generating HTML documents. Unfortunately the change to newer standards is not without problems and requires additional work on part of the software.

Sparta
Sparta is a lightweight Java XML package that includes an XML parser, a DOM, and an XPath interpreter. The code-size is small, the parser is fast, the object memory size is small, and the DOM API is clean and simple.

domxml_open_file
The function parses the XML document in the file named filename and returns an object of class "Dom document", having the properties as listed above. The file is accessed read-only.

DOM
The Document Object Model, DOM, is the second major standard API for XML parsers, and the first tree-based API I’ll consider. Most major parsers implement both SAX and DOM. DOM programs start off similarly to SAX programs, by having a parser object read an XML document from an input stream or other source.

Document Object Model (DOM)
Document Object Model (DOM), a programming interface specification being developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), lets a programmer create and modify HTML pages and XML document as full-fledged program object. The Document Object Model offers two levels of interface implementation: DOM Core, which supports XML and is the base for the next level, and DOM HTML, which extends the model to HTML documents.

DOM for Web Services, Part 3
In the first article of this series I discussed the XML authoring and processing requirements in web services, explained the DOM architecture along with the features in the three DOM levels, and introduced MSXML and Xerces, two popular DOM implementations.

Reading XML Data into a DOM
In this section of the tutorial, you'll construct a Document Object Model (DOM) by reading in an existing XML file. In the following sections, you'll see how to display the XML in a Swing tree component and practice manipulating the DOM.

When to Use DOM
The Document Object Model (DOM) is a standard that is, above all, designed for documents (for example, articles and books). In addition, the JAXP 1.2 implementation supports XML Schema, which may be an important consideration for any given application.

XML Strengths and Weaknesses with DOM, ASP and XSL
Since the inception of XML, many developers have wondered why they need XML and how they can use XML to their benefit. In this article, Nakul looks at some of the terminology that comes with using XML and its related technologies, as well as how to create and transform XML documents with ASP and XSL.

Introduction to Using the XML DOM from Visual C++
This article assumes that you are familiar with the basics of what XML is and what it can be used for. If you are new to XML, I would suggest reading one of the many fine tutorials on the subject first and then returning to this document.
