Using XSLT
In this section of the tutorial, you'll learn how to use XSLT to write out a DOM as an XML file. You'll also see how to generate a DOM from an arbitrary data file in order to convert it to XML. Finally, you'll use XSLT to convert XML data into a different form, unlocking the mysteries of the XPath addressing mechanism along the way.

libxslt Tutorial
The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a World Wide Web Consortium standard for the exchange of structured data in text form. Its popularity stems from its universality. Any computer can read a text file. With the proper tools, any computer can read any other computer's XML files. One of the most important of those tools is XSLT: Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations. XSLT is a declarative language that allows you to translate your XML into arbitrary text output using a stylesheet. libxslt provides the functions to perform the transformation.

Using XSLT to Present XML Data
XML is defined as eXtensible Markup Language. It is a meta-markup language and more. Historically, web services faced continuous problems with representing application data. There were issues with performance, persistence, mutability, composition and security. There were no standards defining the representation of data. Defining interpretation, presentation, interoperability and the portability capabilities of data required care.
